In my talk I will focus on the linguistic situation among the Forest Nenets of Pur district (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug). I will show how the process of language shift to Russian language, common to most of the indigenous communities of the North, is complicated by the coexistence of two Nenets idioms: standardized Tundra Nenets and local Forest Nenets.
