Cultural and memory institutions (GLAM; galleries, libraries, archives, museums) are crucial partners for many disciplines and research fields in the philologies. They do not only host primary data as research data infrastructure, but ensure long-term storage and accessibility through their archival and curatorial expertise. These institutions are increasingly conducting research themselves and offer spaces for communicating and discussing findings with the broader public. This talk presents recent developments in the research data infrastructure landscape in Germany and Europe, with an emphasis on philological and linguistic data collections and data on Uralic languages.

The vantage point of this talk is that of a researcher conducting archival studies in connection with the reconstruction of the South Estonian Kraasna variety, as well as that of a researcher working at a library. Beyond these perspectives, further infrastructures and their services for philologists will be introduced. Apart from basic questions in handling language data (like FAIR and CARE principles), this talk will focus on current research projects concerning linguistic legacy materials and the development of research data infrastructures. A central question in the theoretical discussion will be the role of memory institutions as actors in language policy.
