14th Winter School of Finno-Ugric Studies (Munich)

The 2026 Winter School of Finno-Ugric Studies will be held at LMU Munich between 23 and 28 February 2026 (Monday through Saturday).
The winter school will be a hybrid teaching event: students can participate in person, or over the Internet. There is a limited number of slots available for in-person participation. There are no participation fees, but we also cannot provide travel grants this year. We will, however, aim to find affordable accommodation for interested participants in hostels.
If you wish to participate (either in person or digitally), please register at https://elomake.helsinki.fi/lomakkeet/137963/lomake.html by 8 December; we will inform accepted students by the end of the following week. Prospective participants will receive further information in the due course of time.
The winter school will consist of the following teaching activities:
* Surgut Khanty language course (taught by Zsófia Schön)
* Workshop on literary translation (taught by Maximilian Murmann)
* Workshop on sociolinguistically informed linguistic field work (taught by Ksenia Shagal)
* Three guest lectures (topics to be announced)
* A student colloquium
Updates to the agenda and a detailed schedule will be published on this page in due time.
Students are encouraged to give a talk on their research interests and work in the student colloquium. Participating in the winter school is worth 3 ECTS without a talk in the colloquium and 5 ECTS with a talk.
